The Refuge and Precepts ceremony is an auspicious and beautiful ceremony done for those wishing to commit toward the path of liberation. Aspirants take refuge in the Three Jewels (or Triple Gem) of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and also vow to abstain from taking life, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and consuming intoxicants.
Aspirants taking refuge and the precepts become “official” Buddhists and members of the Temple. Members of the temple are distinguished by those wearing the gray robes during services and ceremonies. The ceremony is a beautiful commitment for those wishing to walk the Buddhist path and vowing to live their lives with morality, wisdom, and concentration so that they may be able to attain enlightenment for themselves and for the benefit of all sentient beings.
